Localize's Founder Receives 'Star Women in Grocery' Award

June 23 Ashley Cattell

It's been an exciting month at Localize! After being recognized as one of three companies shortlisted for the BC Food Processor's Innovation Award last week, comes a second big accomplishment. We're thrilled to announce Localize's founder Meghan Dear has been chosen as one of Canadian Grocer's Star Women in Grocery! This is the fourth year the national magazine is celebrating women who have made a prominent impact on the grocery industry.

A true entrepreneur, Localize was born from Meghan's desire to make it easy for consumers to support products with a traceable story, and in turn make it simple and straightforward for food producers to expose and promote the food facts that shoppers care about most -  who made it, where was it made, and what went into it. Together, this information helps to answer the ultimate question, "where does our food come from?"

In an interview with Canadian Grocer Meghan shared, “Entrepreneurs possess a unique desire to fix problems that they can’t stand to leave unsolved.” It was this drive and creativity that led Meghan to build a shelf labelling service for grocery stores, and recruit a dedicated team with skills in technology and product development, who are united by their incredible passion for food transparency. Today Localize tags help shoppers to identify local products at more than 250 grocery stores across Canada, highlighting more than 800 Canadian food producers and over 12,000 unique products.
